Our philosophy is simple: we want our horses to evolve a little more each day, while preserving the passion and family involvement that have been at the heart of this project since the beginning.

We believe that the way something is born and grows shapes its identity. For us, horse breeding and training have always been a family endeavour — guided by respect, dedication, and a constant pursuit of excellence.

Our breeding process begins with the careful selection of breeding horses, valuing both genetics and attitude under saddle. All our mares are ridden, as we believe that the way they perform under saddle is essential when deciding their integration into the broodmare band. Likewise, we choose stallions for their functionality, quality as riding horses, conformation, movement, and genetic background.

The result of this approach is a solid bloodline, with excellent genetic potential and remarkable performances both in Portugal and abroad. For us, a good horse is one that seeks to understand and trust its rider, allowing a genuine bond to develop between them.

From the beginning, our goal has been to produce elegant horses with excellent rideability, strength, and lightness — capable of performing demanding dressage movements with ease and natural balance. We base our selection on character, sound conformation, and the lightness and collection ability that so strongly define the Lusitano horse.

Over time, and in step with the evolution of the sport, we have also begun breeding Luso-Warmbloods, crossing some of our best Lusitano mares with top-quality dressage stallions. We do this thoughtfully and selectively, always aiming for the perfect balance between genetics, functionality, and rideability.

At Coudelaria Henrique Abecasis, we breed horses for sport — especially for dressage — but above all, we breed horses with soul, character, and a deep connection with their rider, which we believe is the true essence of horsemanship.
